On feeling stuck

These paintings are part of a series of works created while grappling with the question of whether or not to continue to paint. Most have a high level of impasto built up from multiple layers of paint being applied and then scraped back out in a process focussed on painting and un-painting. Many of these pieces feature ambiguous figures mired in their environments, often stuck within or trying to break free from the middle of the canvas’s boundaries.
